Life Behind Closed Doors

This family is raising two children with special needs. They cannot eat on their own, require around-the-clock diaper changes, and constantly need parental care and supervision.

Every time the mother sees her daughter suffering or in pain, her heart breaks. Sometimes, the girl bites herself and causes self-harm. To ensure the children's safety, the parents are forced to keep the room door locked—if left unattended, they could wander out into the street and end up in severe danger.

"I could turn my back on my relatives, but I will never give up on my children," says the mother.

For 14 years, this family has been living through these grueling hardships. They do not own a home and are constantly forced to move from one rented house to another. When it rains, the water leaks inside. The floors have sagged, and there are virtually no basic facilities to properly care for the children. On their own, the family was only able to set up a small, makeshift shower.
